WTF is the word “Turkiye”?

--

In Turkey, we try to change the world to call the country Turkiye instead of Turkey. But it’s proven to be futile.

Made in, what?

And that’s for a good reason.

Turkiye is not English!

Why not call it Turkia. It’s grammatically more correct and regular, not only compared to the word Turkiye, but also Turkey.

Also, it’s still close to the Turkish phonetics we’d like to have adopted. It does sound similar to Turkiye.

Would like to see a proof? Take a look at Serbia:

  • Serb => Serbia
  • Turk => Turkia

Best of all, it’s not Turkey, which we, for some f*ing reason (🦃)!?, feel ashamed of.

🤷‍♂️
